The Work

Interactive

Seagate Portfolio Tool

Seagate asked CRM to produce a micro-site to showcase where their products are used in the home, office and data center. CRM devised an interactive Flash presentation that featured extensive use of 3D animation.
The site allows the user to tour the home, office and data system in a fun and engaging way. We had to pay careful attention to the size of the 3D environment; although it needed to be rich looking, we had to be conscious of the file size for streaming.

Seagate Storage Calculator

Seagate wanted to create an applet that would aid computer users in calculating how mush storage space they need. CRM created the Storage Calculator, an interactive tool that guides users through the process of selecting the right hard drive for their needs.
The applet takes the user through real life applications and lets them select how much data they will need to put on their hard drive. As they add examples, the amount of storage they need is updated on the screen. Upon completing the process, the user is presented with a Seagate product solution that will meet their storage needs.

Seagate 1TB

Seagate had CRM create another in a series of interactive product brochures for their Barracuda 1TB hard drive. As with the other interactive brochures, CRM was challenged to make the project informative and entertaining.
Employing a stylized interface, users are taken on a tour of the product, which provides details on the technology and product applications. This entire interactive brochure series employs extensive metrics.

Symantec Brand Playbook

Symantec came to CRM with the need for an entertaining presentation to introduce their new brand guidelines. Although Symantec wanted a companion piece to introduce the new guidelines, they didn’t want it to be a slide show of what’s contained in the guidelines.
While this had to be fun, we were challenged with a limited budget that prohibited us from doing a full video shoot. We devised a technique with Flash to animate an actor who was shot with a still. The result is not only unique, but interestingly engaging.

ZillionTV

ZillionTV, a company still in stealth mode, wanted to start some buzz about their company. We were chartered with creating some excitement, but we were also limited by what we could say about the company.
CRM came up with the concept for a viral web site featuring an actor asking some interesting questions. This provided a venue for users to enter their own comments and see other peoples’ comments on the site. The site collects the data so Zillion TV can start intelligently communicating with their future customer base

Hopkins and Carley

As one of the largest law firms in the Silicon Valley, Hopkins and Carley wanted an informative site that would quickly educate users on their services while imparting a sense of their integrity.
CRM employed a hybrid HTML site that made extensive use of a database backend that retrieves information quickly, with a minimal amount of mouse clicks. We also provided a vehicle for them to share news and other current information.

KACE Interactive Product Tour

For the third time in four years, KACE asked CRM to update their interactive product tour. The goal of the piece is to drive people to a call-to-action, such as a personal on-line demo, through which KACE has had a successful rate of closing sales.
As with all of our clients, CRM maintains a digital library of assets. While this update is fresh and current, it still uses some of the assets we created for the original piece. These days, value through extended use is essential for all of our clients.

Applied Transistor Game

Applied Materials asked CRM to create a game to take users through the process of creating a semiconductor. The application was deployed at a trade show on touch-screen monitors and later developed for use on the Applied Materials home page.
This piece was especially challenging because of the technical nature and logic needed for the many possible combinations of answers. The animation, while appearing simple, had to be technically very accurate as the audience were mostly PhDs and engineers.

Seagate Banners

Seagate has had a long relationship with CRM. Recently we created a series of animated banners for their home page. Working with their internal creative team, we developed several banners to serve as part of an overall campaign for the company.
The challenge here lies in animating a banner in a way that interests and engages users, but still meets the small file size requirements for the banner. In addition, a call-to-action and metrics had to be built in.

Cyanpdx.com

CRM was asked to bring a complex vision to reality; in this case, to create a visually arresting website for a new condo development. The primary design element was an almost-full-screen video that needed to seamlessly transition from page to page. The concept was based on a well-known Bob Dylan music video.
Even though the site is primarily Flash, each section of the Flash movie has a unique URL, allowing viewers to add sections of the site to their bookmarks, use the browser’s back button and, most importantly, allow search engines to index multiple pages of the site.

Video

Rambus VM Video

Rambus asked Compass Rose Media to create a HD video that showed the human element of their technology. We used a combination of actors and stylized 3D animation to illustrate that Rambus’ technology makes the devices people use every day go faster.
This project had several interesting reuses. We edited it down to a 30 second broadcast commercial and made a resized version that was played on the NASDAQ video wall in New York’s Times Square.

Seagate Drive Punishment

Seagate wanted a video that would show how tough their drives really is. The only problem is that it had to be real. Seagate’s lawyers insisted on truth in advertising. Using professional talent as a host Compass Rose Media found real people, and 1 animal that could put the drives through some pretty tough challenges.
The video proved several challenges. First, how to shoot all of these different environments in two days. Second, how to make it look realistic, but still be entertaining. The results speak for themselves.

TiVo Retail Attract

TiVo came to Compass Rose Media to create a shot HD video attract to be use for in-store play. The video had to grab someone’s attention, while deliver key benefits of the TiVo device. We used a combination of in camera effects combined with 3D graphics and text animation.
One of the projects requirements was that we had to produce this for HD and SD delivery at the same time. It wasn’t a matter of just letterboxing the HD version. All screen images had to be native 3X4. We developed a methodology that let us match footage and composite in the correct format without having to do everything twice.

Xbox Live

For the introduction of Xbox Live Microsoft wanted a video that shared the visions of the gamers that would be playing. CRM used a combination of stylistically shot interviews with gamers and 3D animation and graphics to create the “Live Arena”
As part of the creative treatment, Compass Rose Media came up with the Arena them as the thread for the concept of the video. The idea was so successful that Xbox used the arena concept for the booth at the E3 trans show.

Seagate In Store Commercial

Seagate had the opportunity to buy a 30 second time slot of am major national retailer. The problem was that they had two weeks to deliver. Compass Rose Media, developed creative, script, auditioned talent, shot, created graphics, completed editorial and delivered on time.
The spot was tied to not only increasing product awareness, but also increasing sale. One of the reasons we were able to complete the project in just two weeks was because all of the resources for the project, except the stage, are under one roof. This we were able to work on our clock delivering the project on time and on budget.

Seagate SATA

Seagate was introducing a new interface, SATA, for their disc drive products. One of the things Compass Rose Media does best is take a complicated message and present in way that tangible to a wide audience. For this project we used 3D animation to create visual metaphors to help explain concepts and the technology.
One of the project requirements was that we had to localize the video into 14 different languages. To do this cost effectively, the graphs layer was designed to always be on top of the animation. This made it possible to localize on screen text without effecting the 3D animation layers.

Bill.com

Bill.com was introducing their new on-line accounting services and needed a fun way to help consumers learn about it. They wanted the piece to mirror their brand and demonstrate how simple and easy the service is to use.
Employing less complex techniques and a more traditional style of animation, Compass Rose Media created a short video that conveyed the simplicity of bill.com. Illustrating by hand and shooting the drawings on a copy stand, gave the piece its unique creative look.
